Applications
Applications and engineering translation
The five themes are scientific identities. This page collects the settings in which the methods have been used, and the partners they were built with.
Aerospace composite structures
A decade of work with Embraer on uncertainty quantification for composite aircraft structures, recognised by the ICAS von Karman Award for International Cooperation in Aeronautics in 2024.
Wind energy and offshore foundations
Probabilistic frameworks for wind speed prediction and turbine fragility, developed with Garrad Hassan, now DNV-GL, and applied to monopile-supported offshore turbines and their foundation dynamics.
Vibration control and inerter systems
Inertially amplified dampers, negative stiffness isolators and tuned mass systems, with closed-form design expressions.
Energy harvesting
Piezoelectric and magnetopiezoelastic harvesting under broadband random excitation, including harvesting from wave-bearing periodic structures.
Civil infrastructure and sensing
Bridges and viaducts, seismic isolation, structural health monitoring, and nanomechanical mass sensing.
Application papers are listed here and also under their scientific primary theme, because the reusable contribution and the setting are different things.
