Bristol Meeting on Uncertainty in Structural Dynamics: Travel
Information
Location:
The department of Aerospace Engineering is located in
Queen's Building, which houses half the faculty of engineering, and is a
large, brick and stone building located on midway along University Walk
(map).
How to get here if you travel by rail:
There are two stations in Bristol - Temple Meads and Parkway. If there is
an option, you are recommended to go to Temple Meads which is much closer and
has a bus service that goes to the University.
From Bristol Temple Meads station:
Temple Meads station is about 1.25 miles from the University. The easiest
way to get here is to take a taxi. Alternatively the number 8 and number 9 circular bus
service (renumbered to 508/509 at certain times of day) runs every 15 minutes
or so from Temple Meads and goes along Tyndall Avenue past Senate House. The
number 9 bus goes in the right direction for the trip (the number 8 goes in
the opposite direction). There are bus stops outside the Hawthorns Hall (just
before Tyndall Avenue) and on St Michaels Hill (just after Tyndall Avenue).
You can of course walk from the station, but be warned that the optimum route
is not that easy to find and that we are situated at the top of a hill.
The Hospital and University Shuttle Bus links Temple Meads, the bus
station, the city centre and the main University precinct. The service
operates from 6.30 am to 6 pm, Mondays to Fridays every 12-24 minutes. The
service is run in conjunction with the United Bristol Healthcare Trust and is
free for University staff and visitors. A
map showing the location of bus stops and a
timetable are available.
From Bristol Parkway station:
Parkway station is about 6 miles from the University. You are recommended
to take a taxi.
How to get here if you travel by air:
From London Heathrow Airport:
There is a direct National Express Coach Service
between Heathrow and Bristol. Alternatively you can take the Heathrow Airport
Express to London Paddington and a Great
Western train from Paddington to Bristol. There is also a Railair coach service which runs between
Heathrow and Reading. Most Paddington to Bristol trains stop at Reading.
From Bristol Airport:
The airport is about 8 miles to the south of Bristol centre. There is a
frequent bus service from the airport to Temple Meads station, or take a taxi.
For further information, contact the airport on 01275 474444 or www.bristolairport.co.uk.
How to get here if you travel by car:
Firstly a word of warning:
parking is very difficult near the University. If you let the people you are
visiting know that you are coming by car they can book you a visitor's space
in one of the University car parks (no. 41 on the precinct map). Unauthorised cars are liable to be
clamped). There are NCP car parks about 10 minutes walk away and downhill
relative to the University. You might be able to find unrestricted street
parking about 10 to 15 minutes walk away.
Directions from M32:
- Carry straight on from the end of the M32 until you come to a T junction
where you should turn right (following signs to Bus Station and
Clifton).
- You soon come to a roundabout where you should take the second exit
(following signs to Bus Station, Royal Infirmary and Clifton).
- Go straight on over several sets of traffic lights. Just after the
entrance to the NCP car park on your left, turn right into Woodland Rd
(opposite the AA building).
- At the top of the hill is a crossroads. Diagonally opposite on your left
is a grey stone building (The Hawthorns) in front of which is visitors
parking.
