I am currently on a four year Unilever funded CASE studentship on the metagenomics of the human microbiome which I began in October 2010. Before this, I graduated from Newcastle University after studying Mathematics and Statistics for four years to a Masters level.

My research to date has primarily involved investigating the issue of noise removal in sequencing data, particularly chimera identification. I have also carried out analysis of species diversity in collaboration with my supervisor, Dr. Chris Quince, and other researchers. Currently, I am attempting to design and implement a statistical model to simulate chimera formation during the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) process and I hope to produce some interesting and useful results.
